More information released on officer who shot man in Meridian

UPDATE: The City of Boise has confirmed the identified officer involved in the shooting at The Village at Meridian, K. Paporello, is the same officer involved in a shooting on Nov. 21, 2022.

The November shooting happened in the area of Red Cedar Ln. and Lake Forest Dr.

Officer Paporello works in a unit often assigned to investigate or search for certain suspects, including fugitives, dangerous felons and registered sex offenders.

The City of Boise is unable to specifically discuss these recent incidents as they are still under investigation.

The City says, historically, it is not the shift assignment or time of day that increases the danger for officers, it is the criminal action of the suspect and the threat they pose to the public or a police officer.

The original story is below.

The Boise Police Department released the name of the officer who shot 32 year-old Eli Nash.

The department identified the officer as K. Paporello, a 23-year veteran of the department. A police officer with the same first initial, last name, and length of service with BPD was involved in a shooting on Nov. 21, 2022.

The shooting happened Monday afternoon in the parking lot near Texas Roadhouse, across from The Village at Meridian.

Police say Nash, who registered as a sex offender, was wanted for a parole violation. Prior to the officer shooting Nash, they said he indicated he had a weapon. Police later found a gun at the scene.

CBS2 has asked Boise Police to confirm this is the same Officer.

On November 21, 2022, Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Meridian Police Department, were searching for Jeremy Waste, who was wanted on a warrant for aggravated battery after stabbing a person and fleeing from the location.

As two officers attempted to take him into custody, investigators say Waste pulled out a weapon and attempted to hurt officers.

K. Paporello shot at Waste, injuring him. Officers provided medical aid before paramedics arrived.

Waste was released from the hospital and then booked into the Ada County Jail for assault-aggravated, battery-aggravated, and enhancement-use of a deadly weapon in commission of a felony.
