Ada County Assessor: Be prepared for 'large value increases' in assessment notices

Here's a new one for you: The housing market in Ada County is hot, hot, hot.

It's so hot the Ada County Assessor said Wednesday that folks need to be prepared once they receive their assessment notices, which will be put in the mail beginning later this week.

“In this red-hot market it has been very difficult to keep up with value increases,” said Robert McQuade, county assessor.

The county says it's hoping property owners are "ready for large value increases." The average home in Ada County is now worth just a hair below $400,000. Homes have increased in value by 26 percent.

“We estimate the January 1st fair market value based on actual sales activity, as required by state law,” McQuade said. “Until local authorities complete their budgets and determine the tax levies needed to fund those budgets, it is extremely difficult to know how property tax charges will be affected.”
